This Week's Mindful Morsel 🍪 | May 7, 2025 — Chip Away at the Wedge
Happy good Wednesday đź’ś
I’d like to say something out loud: you’ve been taught to not like your body.
Various systems and companies and institutions and people in your life benefit from you not liking your body. That’s just fact.
It’s not a state of being that needs to continue, but it is a super challenging thing to overcome.
Not liking your body is a huge obstacle to getting on a yoga mat or sitting still with only yourself. In those moments, you’re being asked to turn inward to the very places you’ve been taught are bad or not worthy or unacceptable.
This can feel unsafe, scary, and extremely vulnerable. With feelings like this, of course it’s hard to immerse in a yoga or meditation practice.
I have feelings like this too. All the time. And I think when we step onto the mat or sit silent for a few minutes anyway, we face what we’re told to fear.
There’s great freedom in that — and we find out we’re much more awesome than we’ve been letting on.
Yoga, somatics, and breathwork are gateways to getting to know yourself and removing that wedge that’s been driven between you and your body.
Slowly but surely, you learn your body isn’t such a scary or inadequate object. It’s a moving, miraculous lifeform that gives you the capability to move about the world. It’s intricate in design and capable of extraordinary things.
If this message resonates with you, I encourage you to acknowledge that this week. Say it out loud — to yourself, to a confidante, to the trees. And then step into a practice that will help get you out of that space.
PS: For extra inspiration, listen to "She Broke Free" while you sit and breathe. It's only 2 minutes and has good energy you can feel in your bones.
With kindness and support,
